Fim à repressão na Turquia!
Pela Paz no Médio Oriente!
O Conselho Português para a Paz e Cooperação (CPPC) expressa a sua condenação pela brutal repressão contra as manifestações populares que têm ocorrido durante os últimos dias em diversas cidades turcas.
Amplas manifestações populares que tiveram início com a resistência e protesto contra a destruição do jardim da Praça Taksim, em Istambul, e face à violenta repressão policial que se lhe seguiu. Manifestações que são expressão do profundo descontentamento da população turca com as políticas do Governo do AKP, dirigido por Tayyip Erdogan.
O CPPC condena os ataques que têm sido perpetrados pelas forças repressivas do Governo turco contra as instalações e activistas das forças democráticas e progressistas turcas.
Na Turquia como em Portugal, os seus respectivos trabalhadores e povos têm sido confrontados com políticas que servem os interesses de alguns em detrimento da maioria esmagadora da população.
O CPPC não pode deixar de denunciar postura do Governo turco em relação à Síria, de apoio aos grupos terroristas que atacam este país, de sistemáticas provocações e desrespeito da soberania e da integridade territorial da Síria – de que é exemplo, a violação do espaço aéreo sírio pela força aérea turca – ou a colocação das baterias de misseis Patriot da NATO junto à fronteira com a Síria, um inaceitável e condenável comportamento agressivo que viola os princípios da Carta da ONU e que é rejeitado pela maioria da população turca, que aspira à Paz.
Saliente-se que a atitude de escalada de agressão contra a Síria integrou acções de provocação, de que são exemplo os atentados à bomba perpetrados a 13 de Maio passado na cidade de Reyhanli – de que resultaram dezenas de mortos e feridos –, aos quais a população respondeu com grandes manifestações exigindo a Paz e a demissão do Governo turco.
O CPPC junta a sua voz à voz de todos aqueles que exigem o fim da violenta repressão na Turquia e se solidarizam com a luta do povo turco e suas organizações progressistas – como a Associação de Paz da Turquia, que o CPPC saúda particularmente – em defesa dos direitos e liberdades, pela democracia e o secularismo, pela Paz no Médio Oriente, contra a política autoritária, reacionária e a agressiva do Governo turco.
O CPPC subscreve a tomada de posição conjunta de diversas organizações portuguesas – Fim à repressão na Turquia! Solidariedade com o povo turco! – e apela à participação no acto público de entrega deste documento na Embaixada da Turquia, em Lisboa (Avenida das Descobertas, 22), na próxima Sexta-feira, 7 de Junho, pelas 18h.

End repression in Turkey!
For Peace in the Middle East!
The Portuguese Council for Peace and Cooperation (CPPC) expresses its condemnation of the brutal repression against the popular demonstrations that have taken place during the past few days in several Turkish cities.
Vast popular demonstrations that began with resistance and protest against the destruction of the Taksim Square garden, in Istanbul, and in view of the violent police repression that followed.
Demonstrations that are an expression of the deep discontent of the Turkish people with the policies of the AKP government, led by Tayyip Erdogan.
The CPPC condemns the attacks perpetrated by the repressive forces of the Turkish government against the facilities and activists of the Turkish democratic and progressive forces.
In Turkey, as in Portugal, the workers and peoples have been facing policies that serve the interests of a few at the expense of the overwhelming majority of the population.
The CPPC cannot refrain from denouncing the stance of the Turkish government regarding Syria, of support to terrorist groups that attack this country, of systematic provocations and disregard for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria – an example of which is the violation of Syrian airspace by the Turkish air force – or the deployment of NATO’s Patriot missile batteries near the border with Syria, an unacceptable and reprehensible aggressive behaviour that violates the UN Charter and is rejected by the majority of the Turkish people who aspire for Peace.
It should be stressed that this action of the escalade of aggression against Syria is part of provocation actions, an example of which are the last 13th. May bombings in the town of Reyhanli – which resulted in dozens of deaths and injured – to which the population responded with huge demonstrations demanding Peace and the resignation of the Turkish government.
The CPPC joins the voice of those who demand an end to the violent repression in Turkey and sympathises with the struggle of the Turkish people and their progressive organisations – like the Peace Association of Turkey whom the CPPC salutes especially – in defence of the rights and freedoms, for democracy and secularism, for Peace in the Middle East, against the authoritarian,, reactionary and aggressive policies of the Turkish government.

and calls for the presence in the Public Act of handing this document in the Turkish Embassy, in Lisbon (Avenida das Descobertas,22), next Friday, June 7, at 18h.
